Use Bucket Browser each day

Use the child’s configured websites as the starting point for the school day. Review changes on the child’s device before relying on them.

Start a session

  1. Open Bucket Browser and check that the device is connected for the intended child.
  2. Select the website tab for the lesson and sign in to that learning provider if required.
  3. If the app is waiting for setup or shows an error, ask a parent to check the family configuration before continuing.

A Bucket Browser sign-in does not replace a learning website’s account. Use that provider’s password recovery if its login fails.

Understand the three website lists

Websites
The sites that appear as fixed browser tabs.
Whitelist
Hosts permitted without creating a fixed tab, including supporting content, videos and off-site links.
Blacklist
Hosts to block. Blocks take priority over website tabs and whitelist rules. Child blocks also apply across the child’s devices.

Host rules apply to the host, rather than just one URL path. Review the exact-host or subdomain option before approving a rule: allowing one host can permit more content than the single lesson you intended.

Change a child’s websites

  1. On the parent’s device, open Settings → Family and select the child. Review their website permissions. Settings → Websites also contains website lists; check whose configuration you are editing.
  2. Add or remove the required website or host rule. Review blacklist conflicts and the option Only allow approved websites when shown.
  3. Choose Save where the editor offers it, and check for any error or pending status. Do not assume an unsaved edit has applied.
  4. Keep the child’s device online, then check its tabs and try both the intended lesson and a site you expect to be blocked.

When a lesson needs another host

Review the blocked address with an adult. A provider may use separate hosts for sign-in, videos or lesson content. Add only the hosts you understand and need. Starter bundles are a starting point and may need additional hosts; review their proposed changes before saving. Keep existing blacklist rules in mind.

Finish the school day

Follow the learning provider’s guidance for signing out, especially on a shared device. Keep the parent PIN private. Device locking is configured separately through the device locking guide; it does not replace adult supervision.

If a change has not arrived

Keep both devices connected and bring Bucket Browser to the foreground on the child’s device. Confirm that you edited the correct child’s configuration. Follow the troubleshooting guide if the change still does not appear.
